I Ah Toll Ya, U Better Shut Up! Afghanis Bombed Again

Today the Great Ayatollah of Iran told the protesters to end their protests or there will be trouble. He was backed in a corner and after a week of debating decided to come out swinging. But the Great Leader didn’t have much choice. He either admitted the system is corrupt and that the government is one of liars and thieves, or he could stand firm. The Ayatollah is standing firm. He warned the protesters that if they go out on the streets again it will be with the consequences falling directly on their heads.
Up until today the debate has been polite. With the Supreme Leader coming out and threatening the protesters, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hoseyni Khāmene’i is now putting his credibility on the line according to MSNBC.
The smart thing for the government to do is simply to watch and wait and ignore the protesters. If there are no provocations for escalation then the steam will eventually run out, especially if the elections were fair. Even if a million people protest, in a country where 40 million voted, they are not a majority, a very pissed off minority, but a minority none the less. We shall see.

The Defense Department claims that an air strike in Afghanistan killed 26 civilians last May when going after the Taliban. Afghanis say there were 140 persons killed according to the BBC tonight.
This is an AP report on Yahoo news earlier today.

“By ANNE GEARAN, AP National Security Writer Anne Gearan, AP National Security Writer – 6/19/09
WASHINGTON – A U.S. warplane failed to follow all operational rules in a complex battle in Afghanistan last month that killed an estimated 26 civilians and 78 Taliban fighters, the U.S. military concluded in a report released Friday.

The deaths last month raised the stakes in a growing battle for the good will of Afghan civilians, whose allegiance Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said is crucial if the United States is going to win the faltering war in Afghanistan.

“The inability to discern the presence of civilians and assess the potential collateral damage of those strikes is inconsistent with the U.S. government’s objective of providing security and safety for the Afghan people,” the report prepared by U.S. Central Command said.

Three U.S. air strikes conducted after dark near the close of the chaotic fight in the western Farah Province probably accounted for the civilian deaths, the report said. It contained only mild criticism of the B-1 bomber crew involved, however, and the nation’s top military official has already said there is no reason to punish any U.S. personnel.”

Below is a report from a couple of weeks ago when the issue was brought up when the new commander Lt. Gen. Stanley McChrystal took over in Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON – American troops made substantial errors and did not strictly follow rules for avoiding casualties during an air assault on Taliban fighters last month, a U.S. defense official said, underscoring a central quandary for President Barack Obama’s new Afghan counterinsurgency campaign.

The defense official said Wednesday that a military investigation faulted some of the actions of American troops in air strikes May 4 that killed dozens of Afghan civilians in Farah province.

“Errors were made” in the attack, the official acknowledged on condition of anonymity, discussing one of the preliminary findings on an incident that has strained relations between Washington and Kabul and bred deep resentment among the Afghan people. Civilian deaths in Afghanistan have also enraged Muslims worldwide.

Though the probe looked into the events in early May, commanders for well over a year have focused considerable attention on the problem. It looms as large as ever as the Obama administration streams 21,000 troops into Afghanistan to try to regain momentum in the faltering war.

According to the U.S. military, the battle in Farah began a day after Taliban fighters entered two villages, demanded money from civilians and killed three former government employees. An Afghan force rushed in, only to be ambushed by as many as 300 insurgents.

The provincial governor asked for U.S. military help, and American ground troops joined the battle, the U.S. says.

Before the battle was over, troops called in F-18 fighter jet air strikes as well as help from a B-1 bomber, coordinating with the ground commander to strike a half-dozen targets including buildings and a tree grove insurgents were firing from or massing in, the U.S. has said.”

Killing people is no big deal when Americans do it, especially unarmed Afghani civilians. Hell they should be thankful we are there to bomb them. Heaven forbid an Iranian kills a fellow Iranian, then it is cause for Republican outrage and presidential hand wringing and fly swatting.

Sir Allen Stanford, Texas millionaire, accused of running a Ponzi scheme, has lost his jet, his mansion and what little of the $7 billion was left in cash. He seemed to run this out a gated mansion in Antigua with the help of the local official in charge of regulating investment schemes. He appeared in court today in Virginia and has been called a flight risk by the prosecuting attorneys and want him to be detained. Gee another rich bastard ripping off the little guy. Oh horrors. Why does the government go after these poor entrepreneurs. I am sure Sir Allen Stanford would have paid off, eventually, maybe.

Today I spent about 20 minutes listening to a rabid Right wing Republican spew forth as if they were still riding high. He lauded Rush Limbaugh, called Obama a socialist and said that the Democratic Party is racist. In fact that was the reason why he joined the Republican Party back in the sixties, or so he claims. A New York Jew as he called himself, he admitted that he was the only one in his family. Everyone else is a democrat, socialist or even communist.
I told the guy I was a Green Party member and that I could not understand how he could listen to Limbaugh without laughing. As for the anti racist Republicans, I wanted to tell him that in the sixties the Democrats under Johnston traded their control of the southern white vote for doing the right thing by black people by passing civil rights legislation. I didn’t get a chance. All I could say was “Well you know Johnston….” and then he was off on his favorite President Nixon. He loved the way Nixon told Democrats off.
He hated Bella Abzug, his congress person when he lived in New York. He called her a fat slob. I told him I liked her. I also got in a bit about how Nixon passed lots of liberal legislation like OSHA and price controls and gas rationing. He signed environmental legislation and opened the door to Communist China. He had to agree with me there, but he still ranted about how Nixon told off Democrats. Fat lot of good it did him. He had to resign. I didn’t get to say that. What can you say to someone who thinks Nixon was our best president. Good luck buddy.

I was going to bring up how Nixon played the race card to get elected. His silent majority was the southern white man that had felt betrayed by the Democrats for supporting civil rights for blacks. Nixon, son of Quakers, leader of the party of Lincoln, welcomed racist whites and began the alliance with them that has held to this day and is the reason why the hard core Republican now is not a moderate businessman but a rabid red neck from the back woods of the deep south. Some party of anti- racism.

What else happened today? Well Angelina Jolie went on CNN to talk about Dar-fur to say that it was pretty frustrating to see nothing happen to change the lives of the people there. She is the spokesperson for UNICEF and she cares. Good for you Angelina.

A judge in Texas was impeached in Texas for sexually harassing 2 secretaries.

This is from USA Today

“The House voted unanimously — though about fifty of 435 members were not present — to impeach U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent, the first federal judge to be impeached in two decades. Kent began serving a 33-month prison sentence Monday in a federal medical prison after pleading guilty to lying to an investigatory committee about sexual misconduct with the women, according to the Associated Press, but the House couldn’t get to the vote until today.
The Senate will now try the case.
It is the first impeachment the House has approved since President Clinton in 1998.
According to the Senate Historical Office, Congress has impeached 13 federal judges. Seven of them were found guilty and two resigned before the Senate took action. It’s not clear how many of them were already in prison at the time of their impeachment.”
But this one is. He is trying to collect his salary from jail. Not bad, if you can get away with it. The senate may not let him.

Obama is on TV doing a commercial for cars at the RTCA dinner (Radio & TV correspondents Dinner). First he said he did not want to run a car company, then he did a pitch for a GM Escapade a la Ricardo Montalban with its soft Corinthian leather. He is making fun of himself and the media. Although his got serious when it came to Iran. He sobered up to tell about the bravery of reporters all over the world risking their lives to report the news wherever and whenever.

We have the first nerd president according to John Hodgman comedian and nerd. At the same dinner where the president spoke, he acclaimed the presidents nerdiness. Geeks and nerds seem to be holding Iran in the crux by controlling access to Twitter and Face Book, etc. ha noted.
He called Obama a Spock like nerd due to his propensity for prosthetic giant ears according to Hodgman. He said that Obama flashed the Vulcan salute to Leonard Nimoy. He read Conan the Barbarian comics as a child. He is also calling Obama the Messiah from Dune, but since he did not know what the spice was=”Melange”, the name of the device that called sand worms =a “thumper” and some other damn thing that I forgot. Not exactly news but Obama is not as nerdy as thought to be, he liked a sport, Basketball definitely not a nerd thing.

Noel Francisco, attorney for Bush administration said on CSPAN today, that the reason why they wanted to avoid transparency was so the president could get unvarnished opinions from advisers. In other words, Bush wanted advice on how best to break the law and didn’t want to have to reveal his sources. Oh well.

Hodgman’s performance that night SUCKED! To drone on that long about being a nerd has to be worse then actually being one. Hodgman should get a wedgie from a Nerd, he and his performance that night deserved it.

Bring back Wanda Sykes if you want funny. She’s lame but at least she can bring the funny when necessary.

Did you see that cartoon depiction of super Obama? That was pretty good, and one of the only 2 highlights of the night (the other bein the president’s performance).

  3. administrator Says:

That is such a nerdy thing to say.

If Hodgman is really like a PC, then invest heavily in MAC.
