Insurance Industry Defines Health Care Bill, Fear of Islam Grows In USA
Joe Lieberman seems to be calling the tune for the Health Care Reform taking his orders from the insurance companies in Hartford instead of from the people. Chris Mathews on hardball is calling it pretty straight tonight. Health care has been whittled down to a mandatory program for the citizens and a windfall for the insurance companies. I hope Joe is happy he has done his masters proud. Democrats are now falling over one another trying to find a reason to turn this sows ear into a purse they can show the public without getting rotten tomatoes thrown at them. Good luck.
Today there was a media frenzy over the arrest of 5 American Moslems in Pakistan who were trying to join the Jihadis. Warren Olney had a batch of experts on his show talking about it. They were wringing their hands and calling for American Moslems to renounce violence as if it were some alien disease. They refused to admit that there is a militant Moslem tradition. Islam was at one time a force for change and progress in the world sweeping away corrupt and decadent Roman and Persian kingdoms that were unpopular with their people. Arabs from the desert were able to sweep aside the armies of those kingdoms because they represented a progressive force offering equal treatment for all non muslims and a willingness to accept conversion from any and all the peoples that lived in the territories they conquered.
The media do a good job of finding Moslem apologists for the west. On Chris Matthews the Moslem pundants are all advocating the perspective that the Jihadis are an extreme minority of deluded romantics. There is a demand on the part of these pundants that young people choose sides and that may push them to the other side. This could very well backfire and cause more radicalism than sweeping it under the rug as they seem to be trying to do. That or they go the other way and demand the government form a special committee to root out the rising extremism in Moslem youth.
As several of the commentators noted Moslem youth today have grown up watching Christians killing Moslems for the last 8 years on a continuous basis and it would be easy to understand how an idealistic youth might want to help their Muslim brothers in the middle east and that begs the question of American support of Israel that nobody wants to touch. The USA is blatantly in favor of Israel and takes their side reflexively.
President Obama is pushing insulation calling it sexy today at a Home Depot. Pretty lame when the president goes out of his way to push hardware like a salesman. Is the US economy in that bad a condition?
As one person said today on Keith Olbermann’s show, one thing Americans can still do is make prisons. He was referring to the town of Thompson, Illinois that is all excited about getting 100 detainees from Guantanamo. Apparently there will be 3000 people required to guard them. 1500 military and 1500 locals. It is a sad statement on the American economy when the only good jobs are guarding prisoners and fighting wars. The two complexes that seem to prosper are the military and prison industrial complexes.
We need to start getting tough on these politicians and I don’t mean joining those corporate foot soldiers in the Tea Party that Dick Army seems to have motivated to go to Washington today. I wonder how many insurance company employees had the day off to go to the capital to join him.
No what we need to do is start to kick butt elect people who will represent the people and not the corporate interests and if that means we elect socialists and greens or populists, then lets get on with it. We could use a Congress made up of people like Barbara Lee, Dennis Kucinich and Alan Grayson. If they were all like them we would have a national health care plan, and would be out of Afghanistan and would have a serious green energy plan that works. But then I am a dreamer who is getting fed up with all this corporate BS. What about you?
